About Hackney
Hackney is a place for everyone. We believe that we can together make Hackney Council the best local authority in London; this means we provide the right services to residents, support our diverse communities, protect the most vulnerable and tackle sustainability, inequality and create growth together. We know that this is not done by any single one person, department of organisation. Working in Hackney means working collaboratively as a system leader to achieve together for our residents.
Our values
Our vision is to make Hackney a place for everyone. Where all our residents, whatever their background, have a chance to lead healthy and successful lives; a place of which everyone can be proud, with excellent services and public spaces, thriving businesses, and strong communities; a place that celebrates diversity, and where everyone can feel valued, included, and involved.
At Hackney Council, our staff values underpin everything we do. We are Inclusive, Pioneering, Proactive, Open, Ambitious and Proud.
Where we work
We are an organisation whose very purpose is to serve a place and the people who live here, and we know staff really value being in Hackney, with their colleagues, in suitable, well-equipped spaces so they can collaborate, develop and do great work. We work in a hybrid model, with staff splitting their time between the home, Hackney’s offices, partner organisations and with our residents.
The majority of Hackney Council office space is located at the Town Hall campus, in Hackney Central, E8 (Zone 2). Our staff are also based in many other locations, such as schools, youth hubs, libraries, depots and housing estates. All of our staff have the flexibility to log in and work from any location.
What we offer
We continually invest in making sure staff have the right tools to do the job, the best working environments, and an open, collaborative and creative culture for you to succeed. This is why Hackney Council is a place where you can grow and develop.

Our Behaviours
The core Adult Social Care behaviours were designed in partnership with staff through feedback at staff conferences, listening sessions and individual conversations with colleagues. Listening to all teams across the department, it was clear that there are key behaviours and ways of working that we can, and should, all sign up to in order to allow us to work effectively in our teams and develop as individuals. It has been continuously apparent that our staff working in Adult Services are caring and compassionate. We want to build on these strengths; ensuring we have the right space and tools to work together in a caring and compassionate way. Working to these behaviours will make Adult Social Care a better place to work for its colleagues, whilst also improving the lives of residents we serve in Hackney.
